About Alert Press

ALERT PRESS is the first open access book publisher in anthropology and sociology.
ALERT PRESS is an independent, not-for-profit, publisher of academic titles, established in the spring of 2010. Our primary focus is work produced by advanced student researchers and published as edited collections. The titles are available as print-on-demand and as free e-books, for the time being. All books are sold for no more than the cost of production charged by the printer, and shipping and handling on the part of the printer. They are also made available for free as downloadable e-books, which in some cases allow for individual chapters to be downloaded as an option.
ALERT PRESS specializes in producing The New Imperialism series of volumes. The focus of the series concerns newly refashioned ideologies of empire, U.S. and allied imperialism, soft power, military humanism, social and cultural militarization, and the recruitment of academics by the national security state.
Chapters by contributors are supervised in their development, from the first stages of conception, through subsequent drafts and review.
ALERT PRESS emerged from a specialized seminar, also titled The New Imperialism, led by Dr. Maximilian C. Forte in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia University, Montreal.
Since its inception, ALERT PRESS has expanded into new areas of publication, with the launch of its Caribbean Series, which is separate and distinct from the New Imperialism series as described above.
